About Me
Balanced
I try to find a healthy balance in everything. Find time to pray, have fun, study, reflect, work, love, eat, work-out. A little bit of everything with no addictions or obsessions controlling my life.
Beautiful
Working on my beauty from the inside for it to reflect on the outside through nourishing my body with healthy food, nourishing my mind and spirit with knowledge and prayer, and nourishing my body with fitness.
Fit Girl
The last element that naturally comes from the last 2. Through finding a healthy balance in my life and working on my beauty from within, comes a fit girl that has the energy to do many great things!

Hi everyone! My name is Diana.
Where do I start? Well, growing up I knew nothing about
nutrition. I didn’t realize it back then but I was starving. I remember in high
school I would go to school with no breakfast, sometimes I’d eat a cookie or
two for lunch, then I’d go home and eat a brownie or some cereal. I remember
having stomach pains from being so hungry, but I knew that if I just waited it
out it would just go away. Why I did this I have no idea. It could’ve just been
simple laziness and lack of knowledge of what I was doing to my body.
After high school I got a decent paying job and discovered
food. Fast food that is. In a few months of eating 2 fast food meals a day, I
gained 10 pounds on my tiny body. There was a wonderful feeling when I would
eat my burger with fries and a coke. Man, was I missing out on food in the
past. I didn’t know it felt so good to chomp into some food. It was almost
euphoric. At that point, I had always experienced ups and downs in energy. I
also hated waking up early. No matter how much I slept, I was always tired when
I woke up. Little did I know that I could change that with proper nutrition.
Then in college, somewhere around 2004 or 2005, I took a
nutrition class as an elective. At that time I took the class because I thought
it would be easy. It turned out that I was totally wrong. It was more like a
science class and I had to study like crazy, reading the chapters up to 3
times. In the end I really enjoyed the class and did well. I was amazed at how
my outlook in nutrition changed. Immediately, I stopped eating fast food, junk
food, and soda. I used to just eat when I was hungry or when I had a craving,
but I realized that food is fuel for your body. I realized that the most
important thing I have is my body and my health. If I was going to take care of
other things, such as my family, friends, career and materialistic things, why
would I overlook the most important thing; the thing that allows me to live my
life in the first place? Most of us do, so I understand, but this was
definitely the point where I started the change.
Soon after, I also started going to the gym. Just like most people, I
had no idea what I was doing. I would just do cardio, ab workouts, and go on
random machines. I knew that I needed help, so I got a personal trainer. At
that time, I was what you would call, “skinny fat”. Skinny little legs, little
arms, but I had all my fat stored in my midsection. I was 24 years old and at
about 22% body fat. Not a bad start, but I wanted to be fit and healthy. We
started off by lifting weights and I saw results immediately! My scrawny legs
now had curves and my waist began to shrink. I loved my newfound strength and confidence.
I also started to research more in nutrition. At first I was attracted
to the bodybuilder type diets. I saw great results, but still knew that I
wasn’t there yet. I kept researching and researching. I was led to organic
food. Eating a variety of food and almost anything natural. Like whole eggs,
grass-fed and free range animal products, any kind of fruit or veggies, and
lots of healthy fats from oils/nuts and more. This started to make more sense
to me. But now I've even ventured into the vegan world.
I went to my first Mr. Olympia in 2009 and I saw so many fit and
gorgeous women. I was in awe and I thought it’d be a dream to be able to
compete in a bikini competition someday. I became obsessed. I even had a
picture of Jessica Paxson-Putnam next to my bed so that I would feel motivated
to wake up and do my fasted cardio. It took years before I had the guts and
faith to sign up for my first competition. I stepped on stage on May 26, 2012.
It was an exciting journey and I had learned so much about myself. You can see pictures here: http://www.bbfg.net/2012/05/my-first-competition.html. Also read about why I decided never to compete again here: http://www.bbfg.net/2012/08/will-i-compete-again.html.
I learned a very important lesson from training for a fitness
competition. It was that I had to put my health, mentally and physically, as a
priority first. I shouldn’t compare myself to other women and I also shouldn’t
put so much importance in body image. My focus now is to just live a balanced
happy life!
Now I want to share this knowledge with others and hope to help and inspire others to take care of your most important asset, your temple.
